A Parallel Threading is a Weaver's Playground Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7, 9am–4pm (both days) Instructor: Robyn Spady $258 WGGC members / $283 non-members Fee includes the workshop, lodging, and 4 meals at the Transfiguration Spirituality Center (details below) $15 Materials Fee Experience Level: Intermediate to Advanced (and adventure-seeking Beginners) Workshop limit: 20  Workshop Chair: Melissa Lusk A parallel threading can provide a weaver with a multitude of options and patterns – from echo weaves and corkscrew twills to turned taqueté and network-drafted twills. Add on top of that weft variations in color and texture and a weaver will find themselves in a playground of possibilities.  Workshop participants will pre-warp their looms from a selection of threadings and during the workshop enter into a journey of discovery and exploration of how to transorm a parallel threading into a myriad of patterns. This workshop is a combinaton of presentation/discussion, weaving, and hands-on excercises. Emphasis will be on understanding the design and drafting processes to empower workshop participants to create their own patterns. (Note: This is not a round-robin style workshop. Participants will weave on their own looms.) Four-shaft looms minimum. Eight-shafts highly recommended. Warping instructions will be emailed closer to the date of the workshop.                                                   This workshop/retreat will be held at the Transfiguration Spirituality Center in the northern Cincinnati suburb of Glendale, Ohio. Workshop participants will stay at the Center on Friday night, in a single  room with private bathroom and four meals: lunch and dinner on March 6, breakfast and lunch on March 7. Please indicate if you would like vegetarian meals or have any other dietary requests. Breakfast is from 7am to 9am, lunch at 12:30pm, and dinner at 6pm. About the Instructor: Robyn Spady learned to weave over 40 years ago. She completed HGA's Certificate of Excellence (COE) in 2004 with the specialized study "Loom-controlled Stitched Double Cloth." She is inspired by the many ways to create versatile fabrics from a single warp. Robyn is actively involved in studying the multitude of approaches to weaving double-faced fabrics, along with uncommon weave structures and narrow warp weaves. She is the founder & editor of "Heddlecraft," a digital weaving magazine, is a frequent contributor to Handwoven magazine, and has a website.
