Come join us for bowling fun, fellowship, games, and prizes as we raise money for a great cause. Proceeds from this event will go towards our 2019 Outreach Initiatives which includes providing workshops free of charge to youth in the Metro Detroit area on mental health awareness, suicide prevention, self esteem, resiliency, and coping skills. Proceeds will also be applied toward our 2019 Caleb Smiles College Scholarship, which is awarded to two graduating seniors attending a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university. We have worked with close to 400 youth since inception. Please help us continue to make an impact in our community.

Chamber Music at the Scarab Club continues its 21st season with a concert in the Main Gallery of Detroit’s historic Scarab Club. This diverse program features music with connections to Hungary, performed by local chamber musicians who are all members of the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra, including Concertmaster Eliot Heaton and Principal Cellist Nadine Deleury. Enjoy works by Hungarian-born composers Leó Weiner and Béla Bartók as well as a string quartet by Austrian composer Joseph Haydn. This is one of six quartets that Haydn dedicated to the Hungarian count Joseph Erdödy. As always, each piece will be introduced by one of the musicians and the concert will be followed by a delicious and friendly reception.

The 2018 “Run of the Dead” - a Día de los Muertos Celebration that takes competitors through two historic cemeteries in Southwest Detroit, Nov. 3 The Southwest Detroit Business Association presents the 2018 “Run of the Dead” 5K/10K run/walk from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3 at the George S. Patton Park Recreation Center, 2301 Woodmere in Southwest Detroit. The USATF-Certified event, which takes competitors through two historic cemeteries, celebrates the Mexican holiday of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) that honors deceased relatives and loved ones. The “Run of the Dead” features awards for top male and female 5K and 10K finishers and by age categories, swag bags with local treats as well as a variety of live entertainment during the event. In commemoration of the annual Día de los Muertos holiday, an ofrenda (altar) will be created by a local artist and on display, and a special memorial tribute and blessing will be held before the race begins. Participants are invited to wear traditional Dia de los Muertos face-paint, flowers and attire. Halloween and non-traditional costumes are discouraged. Registration for the 5K run/ walk is $35, the 10K is $40. Day-of race registration will cost $45 5K and $50 10K. For more information visit www.southwestdetroit.com.
