Aloha, On behalf of the officers and members of the Honolulu Hawaii Branch NAACP, please join us at the 15th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Gala on Saturday, January 13, 2018. This year we will be celebrating the 57th Anniversary of our branch. We are dedicating the year to our youth and have selected the theme “Steadfast, and Unmovable!”   The celebration will be held in the Dole Cannery Ball Room. Pomaikai Ballrooms at Dole Cannery – Iwilei, 735 Iwilei Road Honolulu, HI 96817. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception and silent auction kickoff at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. and awards presentation at 7:45 p.m.   In addition to presenting legacy scholarship awards, outstanding community leaders will be recognized. We will present The NAACP Distinguished Service Award for Lifetime Achievement, The NAACP Community Partnership Award, and the Outstanding Youth Citizenship Award.   We will present the NAACP Distinguished Service Award for Lifetime Achievement to Faye Kennedy; the NAACP Community Partnership Award to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Lambda Chi Omega Chapter; and a Special Community Service Award to Ronald Williams-Lopez (Awarded Posthumously) and Mahogany Magazine. Additionally, we will present the NAACP the Outstanding Youth Leadership Award to Otto Taylor and the William Henry Waddell, IV, VMD and Dr. Donnis Hazel Thompson legacy scholarships to deserving college students. On Sunday, January 14, 2018, we will present the NAACP Religious Leadership Award to Pastor Virginia Donavan during our Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Gospel Service. The Honolulu Hawaii NAACP is grateful for your past support of this multi-cultural celebration and we look forward to continued collaboration. Please demonstrate your commitment to the legacy of Dr. King by attending this memorable event. Your contribution will greatly assist us in our efforts to achieve social justice for all people. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE 5K & 10K Resistance is Futile 5K & 10K is our fifth annual race inspired by Star Trek.  Participants asked us to do a Borg Cube, so that’s what you’ll get for this year’s medal!   We will be donating at least 15% of every registration to Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.),  which is an incredible organization that exists to rescue children from sex trafficking.   January is Human Trafficking Awareness month and we want to do our part to spread awareness. *For a limited time get your official t-shirt and/or hoodie HERE. What: This is a 5K or 10K virtual run (or walk) to celebrate all of your Trekkies out there! When: Complete your race any time in January 2018! *Medals and bibs will begin shipping out mid-December. If you sign up after that your medals will ship within 2 to 5 days of signing up.Where:  You choose the course and you time yourself (you’ll report your finishing time to us).Why:  Because this is our way of celebrating one of the greatest shows ever! We have scheduled another review and testing date for Suspended Scaffold Hazard Awareness and Operator Training for Friday February 16, 2018 at the Sky Climber of Hawaii Office located at 1629 Kahai Street Honolulu, Hawaii 96819. This accredited training program will certify those who pass the test, with a Competent Person certificate from the Scaffold Industry Association.   The cost for the review, testing and certification cards are as follows:   $265 per person for new SIA certificate $210 per person to renew expired SIA certificates   The first part of the day will be spent on reviewing the material and the second half of the day will be for taking the test. Lunch will be provided.   The completed tests will be sent to the SIA headquarters in the mainland for scoring. Those who pass the test will be issued a SIA certificate and card.
