The 8th Annual Makahiki Challenge will be held at Kualoa Ranch on December 15, 2018. “Get Lepo” (dirty) at the state’s First 5K Obstacle Mud Run, which includes around 12 obstacles. In the past, the challenge incorporated a 12-foot wall, mud bogs, rope swing, and monkey bars. Runners will be rewarded with a finisher’s medal, a cold Kona Brewing Company beer, and a concert featuring several local musicians. The Makahiki Challenge is open to anyone age 14 (will need a parent/guardian signature if under 18) and older and of all fitness levels. Participants can enter as individuals or join a team. Prices range from $99 - $110. Gates open at 7:00 a.m. Spectators can watch for $10. Parking is $20 (cash only). To find out more, visit makahikichallenge.com. Hawaii’s favorite obstacle mudrun is now available for the keiki. The first ever Keiki MC will take place on Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The 1.5 miles mudrun will feature 10 obstacles designed to introduce the keiki to the world of obstacle course racing. The Keiki Makahiki Challenge is open to ages 5-13 and is easy enough for children of every level to do. One parent can run with their keiki for a small fee. Limit one parent/guardian per keiki. Prices range from $56-$66. Heats happen every 30 minutes and each heat is sent off in three stages as follows: • 10-13 years old – first • 7-8 years old – second • 5-7 years old – third Gates open at 7:00 a.m. Spectators can watch for $10.
