The Proposal Director: Jill Magid 86 minutes Watch a clip from the film here. THE PROPOSAL follows conceptual artist Jill Magid as she develops a radical project to explore artistic legacy. At its heart is the work of the Pritzker Prize-winning Mexican architect Luis Barragán, which is aggressively “protected” and kept from the public by its copyright holders. By cultivating relationships with Barragán’s family, admirers, institutions, and the rights holders—including extensive correspondence with the director of the Barragan Foundation—Magid consequently constructs a thoughtful love story between the director, herself, and the architect. Ultimately, THE PROPOSAL is a startling, provocative work that forces the viewer into reckoning with how an artist’s story is told, and who is permitted to do the telling. – 2019 ADFF - Full Schedule April 5th, Providence, The Columbus Theatre Walking on Water, 7pm Jimi Hendrix Electric Church, 9:30pm   April 6th, Providence, The Columbus Theatre Buñuel in the Labyrinth of Turtles, 11:30am Bauhaus Spirit: 100 Years of Bauhaus, 1:15pm Ferrante Fever, 4pm The Proposal, 6:30pm Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool, 9pm   April 7th, Providence, The Columbus Theatre Liyana, 11:30am Genesis 2.0, 1:15pm The Price of Everything, 4:30pm George, 7:15pm   April 11th, Newport, Newport Art Museum Bauhaus Spirit: 100 Years of Bauhaus, 6pm   April 11th, Newport, Jane Pickens Theatre and Event Center Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool, 9pm   April 12th, Newport, Jane Pickens Theatre and Event Center Walking on Water, 5:30pm    April 13th, Newport, Jane Pickens Theatre and Event Center The Price of Everything, 12:30pm Carmine Street Guitars, 5:30pm   April 14th, Jamestown, Jamestown Art Center Ferrante Fever The Art and Design Film Festival is sponsored by: Providence Center for Media Culture, The Cable Car Cinema, The Columbus Theater, Newport Art Museum, The Jane Pickens Theater & Event Center, Jamestown Art Center, Department of Art, Culture and Tourism, FirstWorks, Granny Squibb Iced Tea, Empire Guitars, Twenty Stories, DesignxRI, AIA Rhode Island, Providence Monthly, The Public's Radio, ProComRad, Art New England, Little Bitte Artisinals, Design Agency, Rocket Truck – FAQ's: WHERE IS THE THEATRE LOCATED?  The Columbus Theatre is located at 270 Broadway in Providence, Rhode Island. Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool Director: Stanley Nelson 115 minutes Stanley Nelson talks about the film here. With full access to the Miles Davis Estate, the film features never-before-seen footage, including studio outtakes from his recording sessions, rare photos and new interviews. Quincy Jones, Carlos Santana, Clive Davis, Wayne Shorter and Ron Carter are just a few of the luminaries weighing in on Davis’ life and career. “Miles Davis was the personification of cool,” Stanley Nelson said. “He was an extraordinary artist celebrated for his restless artistic aesthetic and his ceaseless innovation. He changed the course of music five or six times. By unpacking his upbringing, his methodology, his relationships, and his demons, we begin to understand the man who redefined the original American musical genre, jazz, and continues to influence generations of rock, funk, and hip-hop artists.” – 2019 ADFF - Full Schedule April 5th, Providence, The Columbus Theatre Walking on Water, 7pm Jimi Hendrix Electric Church, 9:30pm   April 6th, Providence, The Columbus Theatre Buñuel in the Labyrinth of Turtles, 11:30am Bauhaus Spirit: 100 Years of Bauhaus, 1:15pm Ferrante Fever, 4pm The Proposal, 6:30pm Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool, 9pm   April 7th, Providence, The Columbus Theatre Liyana, 11:30am Genesis 2.0, 1:15pm The Price of Everything, 4:30pm George, 7:15pm   April 11th, Newport, Newport Art Museum Bauhaus Spirit: 100 Years of Bauhaus, 6pm   April 11th, Newport, Jane Pickens Theatre and Event Center Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool, 9pm   April 12th, Newport, Jane Pickens Theatre and Event Center Walking on Water, 5:30pm    April 13th, Newport, Jane Pickens Theatre and Event Center The Price of Everything, 12:30pm Carmine Street Guitars, 5:30pm   April 14th, Jamestown, Jamestown Art Center Ferrante Fever   The Art and Design Film Festival is sponsored by: Providence Center for Media Culture, The Cable Car Cinema, The Columbus Theater, Newport Art Museum, The Jane Pickens Theater & Event Center, Jamestown Art Center, Department of Art, Culture and Tourism, FirstWorks, Granny Squibb Iced Tea, Empire Guitars, Twenty Stories, DesignxRI, AIA Rhode Island, Providence Monthly, The Public's Radio, ProComRad, Art New England, Little Bitte Artisinals, Design Agency, Rocket Truck – FAQ's: WHERE IS THE THEATRE LOCATED?  The Columbus Theatre is located at 270 Broadway in Providence, Rhode Island.
