Are you looking for a marketing event with all punch and no pitch? We know you're very busy, but we think you may be excited about what this 30-second description is all about. If you've attended any association marketing and communications conferences in the past year, you have seen that most of them are put on by someone trying to sell you something. Heck, even AssociationSuccess.org is funded by the same folks that run rasa.io and founded Aptify. As a result, these events are starting to feel like sales pitches. We thought: we don't want to hear about products, we want to actually meet and sit down with the other marketing leaders. We realized we probably weren't the only people that felt that way. That’s when we got the idea for Being a Creator (without the risk). We knew there had to be a better way for a small group of top-tier, marketing and communications folks to get together, talk strategy and actually walk away with insights, ideas and implementable tactics. Our goal is to create an inclusive, fun-filled happy hour that helps you conquer your marketing fears. We are hosting this event on January 17th from 4pm - 6pm in DC. Communications and marketing professionals only. Please no vendors.

Location: RPM Italian 650 K Street Northwest Washington, DC. | Start: 1/17/2019 4:00:00 PM End:

A Lesson in Crime The high-energy indie rock outfit Tokyo Police Club features vocalist/bassist Dave Monks, keyboardist/vocalist Graham Wright, guitarist/percussionist Josh Hook, and drummer/percussionist Greg Alsop. Forming in the wake of the breakup of the foursome's previous project, they regrouped as Tokyo Police Club in 2005. They began performing live around Toronto that summer, and the rousing receptions their shows got convinced the group to make Tokyo Police Club a full-time venture. Early in 2006 the band signed with local label Paper Bag Records and began recording their debut EP, A Lesson in Crime, which was released that spring.Buoyed by blog and MySpace buzz, Tokyo Police Club embarked on their largest tour yet that fall. Around the same time, A Lesson in Crime was reissued with wider distribution, and 2008 saw the release of the band's full-length debut, Elephant Shell. By the end of the year, Tokyo Police Club had already begun working on their second album, Champ, which they ultimately released in 2010. After touring the album heavily, they began writing songs in 2011; that year, they also embarked on the Ten Days, Ten Covers, Ten Years project, which found them cranking out covers of songs from the 2000s by artists including Kelly Clarkson and Queens of the Stone Age. The band supported Foster the People on tour in 2012, and amidst all this activity, Monks relocated to New York and Alsop moved to Boston. In 2013, they returned to the studio with co-producer Doug Boehm. Late that year, the first taste of their third album surfaced with "Argentina (Pts. 1, 2 & 3)," which was more ambitious and polished than much of their previous music. Early in 2014, the summery single "It's Hot Tonight" arrived just before Forcefield's March release. At the end of the year, Tokyo Police Club reconvened in New York City to record two new songs, and continued to record in short spurts whenever they had the time. These spontaneous sessions resulted in Melon Collie and the Infinite Radness, a pair of EPs that the band released during 2017. Arriving in time for Record Store Day 2018, the band issued the single "New Blues," both digitally and on limited-edition flexidisc.

with T. Hardy Morris "Finally Free" marks Daniel Romano's eighth long playing album in the last eight years. He has had what understatedly would be considered a prolific output of incredibly entrancing, poignant and creative records in this span of time. Recording, producing, designing and landing his records into the minds and hearts of scores of fans the world over. He has been called a shapeshifter, contrived, a chameleon, a Charlatan, the best living songwriter, an asshole and a genius. His last record, "Modern Pressure" received outstandingly high acclaim and praise from every notable publication out there and was acknowledged by most reputable "for-profit-prize-corporations" as well as a plethora of voguish "music-as-competitive-sport" year end lists. Despite being the bronze placeholder in most of these dogfights, he is most often noted as a person of astounding influence on all of his musically economic successors. "No matter what he does, everything he puts out is better than anything else being put out by anyone else." - Unnamed Subjugate.Romano's new effort "Finally Free" could stand alone as being pivotal if it were only its profound and breathtaking prose on paper. Writing now like an agnostic Whitman in his prime, Romano explores and uncovers new language and meaning for old sentiments grown tired, stating, "these poems are most certainly my finest and most principled efforts to date." Finally Free sings like a radical revelation, exploring the concepts of music as a celestial being, flora as a consequential ancestor and singing, no matter its quality or sound, as the endmost important output of our species. This record contains a vivid religious articulation despite its clear condemnation of a god as a singular ruling white male. New words have replaced old words for new meaning and the definitions have been left up to interpretation. It seems safe to say that Romano has broken the literary soil hard and ferociously to find the remaining repose in our current "danse macabre."This masterful record could easily transfix listeners if it were merely a collection of beautifully arranged and recorded instrumentals. Romano told me this record was recorded with one single microphone in "sitting vocal position". He went on to say "I wrote the songs as I recorded them and I had a guitar amplifier to my right and a bass amplifier to my left. The drums were behind me and my chair in the middle. The microphone never moved no matter what instrument I was recording and the preamp settings never changed. I basically mixed the room instead of the individual tracks." Finally Free was recorded on a 4 track Tascam cassette recorder. This means Romano was making constant stream of consciousness commitments to everything that was being recorded in order to bounce them down to stereo and free up tracks for additional elements. A method virtually unused by his peers. "On every record I make strict limitations for myself. This was by far the most extreme, but I also believe it has rendered the most honest and liberating results." Romano, no matter how many times I asked, wouldnt disclose what microphone was used.Overall, this record harks back to Romano's early studies and obsessions in traditional folk music while simultaneously conveying a surprisingly modern and engaging aesthetic. Dense with new wisdom and blissfully encouraging in these end times."FINALLY FREE" is available everywhere worth going NOV, 30th, 2018 on You've Changed Records in Canada and New West Records everywhere else.

Join International Opera Star Alessandra Marc and The UNMC Choir, The Maytime Symphonette, and Pianist Alex Chan under the direction of Maestro Darryl Winston in a program of joyful and inspirational holiday music with lessons and carols. Ms. Marc, hailed by the Washington Post as "the most beautiful voice in the world," has performed in every major opera house in the world. She has been the featured artist in more than 40 recordings. Free parking will be available behind the Scottish Rite Temple, located diagonally from the church. To access parking, please use the service way on 16th Street between the Chastleton and the Scottish Rite Temple. The church/venue is at the intersection of 16th and S Streets, located midway between the Dupont Circle and U Street Metro Stations. The S2 and S4 Buses stop in front of the church’s door.            A freewill offering will be collected to defray the cost of presenting this event to the community. Alessandra Marc, one of the leading singers in the world of opera, is that rare artist at home in many musical settings. After her recital debut in Paris, newspaper Le Figaro stated “Une etoile est Nee,” (A Star is Born). Ms. Marc has sung major roles in virtually all the world's leading opera houses, including London's Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera. Another critic wrote that her voice [is] “an instrument of unsurpassed beauty and impact.” Andrew Porter, then the music critic of The New Yorker, hailed her vocal instrument as “perhaps the richest, fullest, most beautiful big soprano voice around.” These are the kind of reviews most singers can only dream of, but Alessandra Marc doesn't rest on her laurels. She continues to extend her repertoire encompassing virtually all the great roles for the dramatic soprano. She is particularly noted for her Sieglinde in Wagner's Die Walküre, and title roles in Aida and Turandot, she's no stranger to the concert stage. From Beethoven's 9th Symphony to Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, Ms. Marc shows both her extraordinary depth and range. Nor does she shy away from the non-classical repertoire; she is at home with the songs of Harold Arlen, George Gershwin and Rodgers & Hammerstein, to say nothing of the songs of rockers Evanescence and the rap music pioneers Russell and Danny Simmons. Gospel songs and spirituals as well as German and French cabaret songs round out her repertoire. She imbues everything she sings with extraordinary beauty and grace.
