We are excited to celebrate the 40th Annual Polish Heritage Club - Madison Wigilia with YOU! We hope that you along with your friends and family will join in the Polish-American celebration on the first Saturday of December. This is a private event for members, their family, and their guests. Interested individuals are invited to join our club and meet other members at the event. There is a small processing fee for online registation using Eventbrite.  No tickets will be sold at the door.  Pre-purchase required by 1 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2018.  Note:  You must be a PHC member or attend with a member. Wigilia is considered a Christmas Eve dinner, but, we decided to bring our PHC family together beforehand to honor Christmas traditions as the tightknit Club that we are. Kiddos welcome - actually they're kinda a focal point for this fun, family friendly event :) Doors open at 5:00 pm for a social hour with a program to start at 6:00 pm with dinner to follow. BACKGROUND Wigilia Supper A Polish Tradition Wigilia or Willia (from the Latin word, vigilare, to watch is the name given to Christmas Eve and the Christmas Eve supper in Poland. It is a feast symbolizing that all creation is involved in the birth of the Christ child. Traditonally the entire family and household gather at the table, an empty place is set for a possible visitor, hay is placed under the tablecloth in memory of Christ’s lowly birth, and sheaves of wheat and rye are set in the corners of the main room. Supper begins after the appearance of the first star. The oplatek or Christmas wafer is broken and shared by all present, who wish each other well as they break it. Participants express a desire to meet again at the next Wigilia supper. Places may be set for those who are absent or deceased. The supper can consist of as many as eleven, or twelve meatless courses in memory of the Apostle. Traditionally meat is not eaten because this is the last day of the Advent fast, but also out of respect for the beasts of the field; hence they share in the leftovers. The Wigilia supper, partaken in an atmosphere of fond remembering and forgiving, is meant to unite the whole world; the living with the dead, woman, man and all living creatures. After supper gifts are given to the children, and the midnight or Shepherds’ Mass (Pasterka) is usually attended.    FAQs   What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? We encourage you to carpool. Parking available in the Goodman Center lot. There are 56 parking spaces with ample street parking on the streets near the center within a three block walk.   How can I contact the organizer with any questions? Email phcwisconsin@gmail.com
