Alexis Morrast, the recipient of “The Best Up and Coming Young Artist Award” 2017 by Hot House magazine and winner of “Showtime at the Apollo” is all set to razzle and dazzle the audience at The Watchung Arts Center on January 19, 2019 at 8PM. The concert will be followed by a dessert reception and an opportunity to meet Alexis Morrast. Singer/song writer, Alexis Morrast, the seventeen-year-old marvel and native of Newark, now residing in Plainfield, New Jersey began singing at the age of three. Since that time she's performed on several stages: the U.S. Open; Central Jersey Jazz Festival in New Brunswick, featuring trumpet player Sean Jones; NJPAC with Christian McBride; the world-renowned Apollo Theatre, where she emerged as two-time Amateur Night winner and later returned as their Special Guest, and Dizzy's Coca-Cola Club with jazz legend Barry Harris. Furthermore, Alexis’s resounding tone was also heard on the Millennium Stage of The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and more recently abroad in Cape Town South Africa and Austria. She’s worked with greats like Greg Phillinganes, Steve Jordan, Ray Chew, Lisa Fischer, Michael Feinstein and Tony Award winner Christine Ebersole to name a few.

Leonieke Scheuble (pronounced “Lay-o-nee-ka”) a student of Steve Ash, was just 10 years old when great jazz Dr. Lonnie Smith was shown a clip of her playing piano and gifted her with a Hammond organ. Three years later, she went on to win “Best Up and Coming Young Artist” at the 2015 Hot House Fan Decision Awards. She was a recipient of the 2017 Governor’s Award for “Exceptional Promise in Music” as well as twice recipient of the “Youth in Action Award” from the International Women in Jazz. Most recently, Leonieke was honored to be selected by Carnegie Hall/Weill Music Institute as an alternate musician for their 2018 NYO JAZZ season. She is accompanied by her friends “papa” Nick Scheuble on drums, Marty Eigen on Reeds, Flip Peters on Guitar and vocalist Stephen Fuller. The concert will be followed by a dessert reception with an opportunity to meet the performers.
