Beatrice Long brings a group of musical prodigiesto join hands at the Watchung Arts Center on Saturday, October 20, to benefit the American Cancer Society and The Watchung Arts Center. The title for the concert, "Music for Life- a Charity Concert for Cancer Cesearch and the Watchung Arts Center" was chosen by one of the students/performers Sophia Hu. She came up with the name to honor another student, Rachel Chen, who was supposed to play but is debilitated by a diagnosis of Osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, in April. Rachel had a surgery in July to amputate her leg to remove tumor and is receiving chemo. She is facing the entire ordeal with unbelievable resolve, and seems to be doing well in this otherwise horrible situation. We are all hoping that Rachel will attend the concert on October 20. Featured performers are Sophia Hu, pianist and coordinator for this event; Grace Zong, Eric Guo, Ethan Zhang, Eliza Tagle (all pianists); and James Hwang (cello). Soprano Samantha Powell is also expected to perform. All the youthful performers are coached by Beatrice Long, an esteemed piano pedagogue and concert artist. A dessert reception will follow the performance, with an opportunity to meet these young artists.
