Our Moolelo Monday Series will dive into moolelo of resilience, strength, and healing, focusing on moolelo passed down by our ancestors. We have invited kumu to share moolelo and kaao with our students, followed by discussions on taking a deeper look into the layers of meaning contained within each kaao and how we can begin to interpret and understand how these moolelo relate to our own journey, what lessons they are trying to impart on us, and how this wisdom can continue to influence and inform us. Please join us as Jessica Monnier presents Poetic and Religious Harmonies Part 1 as her faculty recital on February 17th. Harmonies Poétiques et Religieuses is a cycle of ten solo piano pieces composed by Franz Liszt between 1845-1852. Each piece is based either on the poetry of Alphonse de Lamartine, Liszt’s favorite poet, or on ecclesiastical texts. Liszt was a deeply religious man, and these pieces represented something personal and meaningful. This cycle was one that Liszt played often for his friends. This event will be live-streamed via Zoom. Link will be provided as soon as available.Location: VirtualContact:Jo Sedlacek-Harman319-895-4228jsedlacekharman@cornellcollege.edu
