OVERVIEW: Several years ago I created a summer leadership academy for high school students. I enjoyed the work and while I would classify it as a success I knew it could be better – I just wasn’t sure where we were missing the mark. I felt like we had hit the target but not the bulls-eye.  During the last few years of working with high school and college students, the answer has become crystal clear to me; young leaders are craving opportunities to experience leadership. In my previous leadership academy, we did a great job of providing speakers, workshops, and breakout groups. We studied and talked about leadership, but we failed to give them the opportunity to practice the skills we were teaching. We made the assumption that they would put it all into action when they returned to their team, campus, or community. This approach failed because leadership is a skill. To become great at any skill you must practice that skill. Any great athlete, musician, or artist will tell you that they have spent countless hours practicing their skills and that was the piece that was missing.  This lightbulb moment led to the creation of The Molly Grisham Leadership Experience. During this one-day event, young leaders will not only learn about leadership through guest speakers but they will also contribute to the sessions in tangible and interactive ways. We want our attendees to experience leadership! EVENT DETAILS: This one-day event is open anyone who will be a female high school student in 2019-2020. We strongly encourage younger students to attend so they can begin the process of developing their leadership skills. This event is being co-hosted by Franklin College Women's Soccer but it is open to athletes and non-athletes.  FAQs: Who is Molly Grisham? During my 20-year career as a soccer coach, I witnessed how skilled leaders and healthy team culture impacted the success of a group. As a result, I often used my teams like a research and design lab testing ways to develop my student-athletes as people. I launched a leadership academy, wrote curriculum, developed a leadership self-assessment, created a service-learning program, and mentored young leaders.  It became clear to me that investing in people mattered so I made the decision to leave college athletics to pursue a wider and more diverse audience.   I now work with high school and college students, educators, corporate groups, and athletic teams by providing leadership development, team building, custom workshops, and personality assessments. Much of the work I do is centered around experiencing lightbulb moments in personal growth and development. The leap I took to leave a 20-year career was a surprise to many people, but I knew the direct investment in people was the next part of my journey. Who will benefit from attending The Leadership Experience? We believe that leadership is influence, a skill, and a choice! We are seeking young people who want to use their influence in positive ways. If you feel like there are skills you want to develop so that you can be a person of influence then we would welcome you to be a part of The Leadership Experience.  Will we be sitting all day? Will this be boring? No! Our process is interactive and we want to hear your voice. While we will have speakers we will also have breakout groups and ways for you to engage with our staff and others in attendance.  What is your curriculum based on? Our curriculum is based on our Six Touchstones: Deconstructing Leadership, Becoming a Servant Leader, Connecting with Others, Investing in Personal Growth, Developing Solution Focused Leaders, & Experiencing Leadership. Do you have any video of The Leadership Experience? Yes, we do, thanks for asking! Here is a video of the Leadership Experience we co-hosted in Mexico City What do I need to bring to the event? You will be supplied with snacks, lunch, and all the supplies you need for the day! We would suggest you bring a jacket in case the room temperature isn't what you would perfer. As the event gets closer we will send you a liability/photo waiver that you will need to submit before the event.  Where can I learn more about The Leadership Experience? Check out this page to learn more! How can I contact the organizer with any questions? Please contact Molly Grisham with any questions - I would be glad to talk with you! molly@mollygrisham.com TESTIMONIALS: “I have worked with Molly with both coaches at our coaching clinics and with my team. The passion and knowledge that she brought to both settings is second to none. Specifically, with my team, she grabbed and held their attention, related to them right away, and was able to help them work through what leadership looked and sounded like. Her team building activities illuminated what areas would be important to stay connected as a team as we moved through our season. An investment in bringing Molly to your campus is an investment in your future success!” STEPHANIE WHEELER, HEAD WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL COACH, UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS “Molly is a leader whose footsteps are ones that I hope to follow. As my coach, Molly instilled a positive team culture through her passionate, dedicated leadership. As my mentor, Molly is a constant source of guidance and support as I move into the teaching and coaching world. Molly is a magnetic force for all females trying to emerge as professionals. She teaches, coaches, and leads with heart and with passion, she lives her life today for others so that they might lead tomorrow.” RACHEL TWIST TEACHER/COACH SKUTT CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL, OMAHA NE “Molly has a way that captivates her audience from the moment she enters a room. My team felt an immediate connection to what she was saying and kept that message and knowledge within our program for the entire season.  We would be in the middle of a practice or half time talk and someone (and a different someone!) would always say "remember what we did/learned/experienced with Molly..."  Molly is a program changer!” LAURA-ANN LANE, HEAD FIELD HOCKEY COACH, GWYNEDD MERCY UNIVERSITY “The first time I heard Molly speak, my first thought was how on earth do I get her in front of our athletes and coaches – she’s that inspirational and her message is that powerful.” PETER TASKER, ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, JOHN BURROUGHS HIGH SCHOOL, ST. LOUIS MO “The passion and knowledge Molly brings to teams and coaches is fantastic! If I ever have any leadership needs or team environments that need an outsider’s perspective, Molly is who I call. She is insightful, organized, and truly cares about making a positive impact on people. If you are in a rut with your team, or maybe just looking for a different take on a situation you need to connect with Molly. She will provide options, answers and follow up. She has definitely been a positive influence on our program.” JEN BROOKS, ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, URSULINE ACADEMY, ST. LOUIS MO
